27 Aug 22 Istanbul to Home

This post is based primarily on Don's notes, occasionally supplemented with MT's notes from our cruise in August 2022.

The Viking Daily newsletter showed today's weather forecast as "Sunny 84° F."

The "Disembarkation Procedures" notice we had received the day before had said we would be provided color-coded luggage tags to help locate and identify our luggage in the cruise terminal. It said we had to leave our tagged luggage outside our stateroom no later than 10:00 pm Friday evening. We were assigned the color GREEN 2 for our luggage. Both this notice and the Viking Daily newsletter for Saturday indicated that those in GREEN 2 should meet in the Atrium at 4:30 am.

We asked for  a wake-up call at 3:45 am, so we could go to the Atrium on Deck 1 by 4:30 am. Arriving there shortly before 4:30, we found that the bar there was providing some simple items for breakfast, but we had no time to eat.

From the Atrium, we would be taken to the cruise terminal, where luggage was separated into groups according to the color-coded tags. We had to locate and identify ours, which porters then loaded onto a bus that would take us to the airport.

At the airport, we had to wait for passport control TWICE and to get our boarding passes (only for the first flight on Turkish Air).

That flight (departing at 8:10 am) took us to Frankfurt, where we got boarding passes for the next two legs of our trip--to Washington, DC and then to KCI in Kansas City.

On those United flights, we figured out how to get movies with closed captions (very useful, since Don had to hold the airline earphones up to his hearing aids). So Don was able to watch one movie on each flight--"The Duke" and "The Batman."
